Biography 

Melbourne based Soprano Soloist & Principal Soprano for The Consort of Melbourne. Accomplished Bach Specialist with a passion for high quality chamber music

Katherine Norman is a Soprano with over 20 years’ experience, including five European Concert Tours, several recordings and numerous live concert broadcasts for ABC Classic FM.

An Early Sacred & Bach specialist whose repertoire also includes modern composition, Katherine is an accomplished Soloist & blended ensemble singer.

Katherine studied voice with Vivien Hamilton & Steven Grant at the University of Melbourne, Conservatorium of Music, and more recently with Michael Fulcher. Career Highlights include Soprano Soloist for the much-loved and vocally demanding Allegri Miserere, Mozart’s Requiem, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Vivaldi Vespers, Hodgson Lamentations (World Premiere), Homophonic! RESPECT, Taylor Mac’s 24 Hour Concert, Deborah Cheetham's Eumeralla (World Premiere) and many Melbourne Festivals.

Notable collaborations have included performances with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Festival, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Musica Viva, The Tallis Scholars, The Rolling Stones, Taylor Mac, Siobhán Stagg, Warren Trevelyan-Jones, Stephen Layton, Jeremy Summerly, Marshall McGuire, Plexus, Genesis Baroque, Miranda Hill, Katie Yap, Meta Cohen, Joe Twist, Caerwen Martin, Louise Trewartha, Wally Gunn & Deborah Cheetham AO.

Katherine regularly performs in Melbourne, most frequently as Principal Soprano with the Consort of Melbourne since 2009 and was a guest artist for the St James King St (Sydney) European concert tour, performing in such distinguished venues as Westminster Abbey and Notre Dame.

 

Katherine is also Secretary of the Board of the Consort of Melbourne and a Lecturer for Venue Management School Australasia.

 

Alongside venue management, Katherine is a Biochemistry Graduate from the University of Melbourne. Katherine is an LGBT+ advocate and mentor. She is also passionate about Equity, with a particular focus on, LGBT+, Gender Diversity, First Nations and Refugees. She’s also recorded podcasts for 3MBS “Beyond the Stage” and “She Inspires Me”.

 

When she is at home, Katherine and her wife enjoy: Artisanal home produce (e.g. homebrew, salami, prosciutto, cheese, curing and smoking bacon etc), planning trips in their VW Van and doting on their Wheaten Terrier, Maggie.
